History: In the mid 1870's Utah began to test the introduction of several new species of fish. One of the fish that they stocked was California Salmon. in 1876 Utah received a shipment of 50,000 California Salmon eggs. They were harvested from the McCloud River in California. Out of the 50,000 salmon eggs 37,500 were hatched. Many of those fish were introduced here. The state hoped that the salmon would take to the Box Elder Creek.
